Policy overview

Policy overview

A summary of the foundation’s statutory purpose, board decisions and adopted project assessment framework.

Purpose and activities 2026–2027

The foundation promotes public dialogue, mutual understanding, connection and reconciliation, on a not-for-profit basis. It raises funds and provides financial support to journalistic, academic, educational and cultural productions, talks, gatherings and research by initiators, who carry out the work themselves. Through stories, knowledge and practical tools, such projects can help bridge divides. The first supported project is The Divide by Maurits Chabot: the international launch and a stay in the US for talks, encounters and new journalistic stories. Other books and journalistic and academic projects are being explored; a second project has not yet been chosen.

Fundraising

We raise funds from individual donors, charitable funds and foundations through donations, grants and contributions. Gifts, inheritances and legacies can also contribute. Project-specific donations are possible if the project aligns with the foundation’s purpose. The foundation does not sell books.

Financial management and expenditure

The board is responsible for careful financial management; the treasurer keeps the accounts. Funds are spent on financial support for public-benefit projects and reasonable organisational costs. Board members receive no remuneration. Reasonable expenses can be reimbursed against receipts. We keep proper records and prevent conflicts of interest.

Project assessment

The assessment framework formally adopted on 31 August 2026 considers contribution to depolarisation, social relevance, reach across different groups, expected impact, lasting value, quality of approach, feasibility and reasonable costs. Projects require a well-supported plan, budget, evaluation and reporting, with attention to conflicts of interest. This is not a general grant scheme open to applications.

Annual reporting

The foundation was established on 15 July 2026. Its financial year is the calendar year; the first reporting period covers 2026. After year-end and approval by the board, we will publish the first activity report and financial information within the applicable statutory publication deadlines.

Activity report and financial information

The first annual report covers the 2026 calendar year. The activity report and financial information will be published here after year-end and approval by the board, within the statutory publication deadlines. No preliminary figures are being presented as final annual results.
